A setback, but the door to week one is still open

Rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq came into this offseason already playing catch-up. He had hernia surgery before the summer even started, and the whole plan was to get healthy in time to make his presence felt before the regular season began.

Now there's a new wrinkle. New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn told reporters that Sadiq hit a small snag in his recovery — a setback to the surgery itself — and will miss some time as a result.

The good news, and Glenn was clear about this: he still believes Sadiq will be ready when the Jets open the regular season. That's the window he's working toward. The setback buys a little more patience, not a longer goodbye.

For a rookie trying to carve out a role, every week of missed reps is a week someone else gets comfortable in your spot. Sadiq doesn't have the luxury of a slow start. He's racing the calendar, and the calendar just got a little shorter.
