Offensive Lineman · Philadelphia Eagles

Lane Johnson

No. 65 · 14th season

Fourteen years in and Johnson still isn't ready to walk away

He could have let the season speak for itself and stepped back. Instead, Lane Johnson sat with the question for a while — and then answered it.

Johnson is a right tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles, the kind of player who has spent so long anchoring one side of the line that it's hard to picture the team without him there. After this past season ended, he took his time. No rush, no announcement. Just the space to figure out whether he had more left to give.

He does. In February, Johnson said he's coming back. Year 14 with the same organization.

That number carries something. Fourteen years at one place, in one of the most physically demanding jobs in the sport, is rare enough to stop and notice. What made him return wasn't obligation — it was that he didn't want his most recent season to be how the story ended.

So it isn't. Whatever he's still chasing, he gets another chance to go find it.
