Quarterback ยท Las Vegas Raiders

Fernando Mendoza

No. 15

His first words to the Raiders were 'Mr. Brady'

Most players walk into their first NFL combine meeting trying to say the right thing. Fernando Mendoza said something better.

Mendoza is a young quarterback the Las Vegas Raiders selected, a player still early enough in his story that every first impression is a data point. The kind of prospect who has something to prove and knows it.

At their combine meeting, he walked up to a Raiders representative and said, "What's up, Mr. Brady? How are you doing?" Not a rehearsed answer. Not a talking point. Just a guy reading the room and deciding to make it his.

That one line probably told the Raiders more than an hour of interviews could. Confidence without arrogance. Loose enough to joke, aware enough to read who he was talking to. Those are things you can't really coach.

He's a Raider now. Somewhere in that building, someone probably still laughs about it.
