Jones is back — just not all the way back yet
There is a moment in every comeback when the answer to "how are you feeling?" stops being enough. The real question is what you can do, and when.
Daniel Jones came to the Indianapolis Colts carrying the weight of a torn Achilles — one of the harder injuries a quarterback can face, the kind that asks your body to remember things it has spent months forgetting. He is a quarterback working his way back into a job, not just into shape.
At the Colts' mandatory spring sessions this week, Jones was on the field — but the full team work, eleven players a side, will have to wait. That part of his return is expected to hold until training camp in the summer.
That gap matters. Every rep a quarterback misses in the spring is a rep they are chasing in August. Timing, trust with receivers, the feel of a live pocket — those things do not come from watching. They come from doing. The clock on a comeback does not pause because the body needs more time.
What happens in training camp will tell us a lot about where Jones actually is — not where everyone hopes he is.
