Quarterback · Baltimore Ravens
Lamar Jackson
No. 8 · 9th season
Lamar Jackson's contract situation has a clock, and it's already running
The Baltimore Ravens have one of the best quarterbacks in football, and his future there is still an open question. That's either a great problem to have or a slow-moving one, depending on where you sit.
Lamar Jackson has won multiple league MVP awards and given Baltimore a style of play most teams can only dream about building. His deal has been a conversation for a while now, and it has not closed yet.
According to reporting from NFL Network, if a new contract doesn't come together this offseason, Jackson will be positioned to reach free agency ahead of the 2027 season — the kind of opening that very few players at any position ever see. The leverage that comes with that, for a player of his caliber, is considerable.
For the Ravens, this is not abstract. Letting a window close on keeping their franchise quarterback is the kind of thing that defines an organization's next decade. For Jackson, the math is working in his favor the longer this stays unresolved.
Whatever happens this offseason sets the shape of the next few years — for him, for Baltimore, and for whoever else might be watching.
