Gabe Jacas

No. 50

New England moved up to get Jacas, then made it official

The New England Patriots didn't wait around. When they had a chance to trade up for Gabe Jacas in the second round of the draft, they took it — and this week they locked him in with a four-year, $8.6 million contract.

Jacas comes in as an outside linebacker who earned All-American recognition at Illinois, which means he was one of the best players at his position in the entire country at the college level. Teams don't trade up for players they feel lukewarm about. New England felt sure enough to give up draft capital just to get to him first.

That kind of confidence from an organization tends to follow a player. Jacas hasn't played a professional snap yet, but he's already the answer to a question the Patriots went out of their way to ask.
