Brock Rechsteiner

No. 89 · Rookie

Six games gone before the season even starts

The preseason is supposed to be about proving yourself. For Brock Rechsteiner, it still is — but the clock is already running against him.

Rechsteiner is a wide receiver with the New Orleans Saints. The NFL has suspended him for the first six games of the 2026 regular season, a penalty that kicks in the moment rosters are cut to their final 53-player limit. Until then, he can practice, he can play in preseason games, he can do everything a player trying to hold his spot would do. Then week one arrives, and he is gone.

That window — all of preseason, none of the regular season to start — puts Rechsteiner in an unusual position. He will build something through the summer that he cannot be part of come fall. The team moves forward; he watches.

Six games is a real stretch of time in a sixteen-week season. Relationships get established, depth charts calcify, roles get claimed. Whatever Rechsteiner is building toward in New Orleans, he will have to rebuild some of it from scratch when he is allowed back in.
