Nine months ago, Tucker Kraft's season ended on the field in November with a torn ACL. That kind of injury rewrites a player's entire offseason — every morning becomes about a knee, every milestone is measured in degrees of bend and days without setback.

Kraft is a tight end for the Green Bay Packers, still on his rookie deal, with a contract extension question hanging in the background. None of that slowed him down. A doctor from the UW BADGER Lab evaluated his knee this week and came back with a word that doesn't get used lightly: spectacular. The doctor told Kraft his rehab was unlike almost anything he had seen before.

On Friday, Kraft came off the physically-unable-to-perform list — a designation that keeps injured players away from practice while they recover — and took the field in a limited role. First steps back. When asked whether he had any hesitation about practicing without a new contract secured, his answer was no.

That 'no' says something. Whatever the business side works out to, Kraft is back on the grass, a knee that impressed the doctor, and a team that now gets to find out what 'spectacular' looks like in pads.
