Nose Tackle · Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Vita Vea
No. 50 · 9th season
Vita Vea is sitting out spring practice, and everyone knows why
He's not hurt. He's just not there.
Vita Vea, a two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has been absent from the team's offseason practice sessions — and it isn't a mystery. He's heading into the final year of a contract signed more than four years ago, and the league has changed a lot since then. So, apparently, has his patience for going through the motions on a deal that no longer reflects what he's worth.
Sitting out spring workouts is one of the few quiet ways a player can make that point without crossing a line. Nothing dramatic, no statement, no holdout — just an empty spot where a starting defensive tackle used to be.
For Tampa Bay, this is the kind of absence that gets noticed in a front office. Vea has earned whatever conversation comes next. The question is whether the Buccaneers want to have it before the regular season forces their hand.

From The Insiders on @nflnetwork: #Buccaneers DT Vita Vea wasn’t practicing at minicamp today and hasn’t been for OTAs in the spring. I’m told it’s related to the two-time Pro Bowler’s contract, as Vea is entering the final year of his deal from 4+ years ago. https://t.co/KMd1MzQAid
