No. 1 · 3rd season
Worthy always knew he'd stand out — the Chiefs are starting to see why
There is a number attached to Xavier Worthy that tends to stop conversations. At the NFL Scouting Combine, he ran the fastest 40-yard dash ever recorded — a single sprint that told every team in the league something about what they were watching.
The Kansas City Chiefs made Worthy a first-round pick in the 2024 draft, which is its own kind of statement. First-round receivers on a team loaded with weapons are expected to earn their place, not just occupy it. Worthy went through shoulder rehabilitation, which meant the path to the field had at least one detour before it really began.
Now he is out there competing with the other wide receivers on the practice field, pushing for the kind of looks that turn a draft pick into a player. Asked about standing out in that room, he said he already knows he will. Not as a boast — more like someone who has been the fastest person on every field they have ever stepped onto and has stopped being surprised by it.
The Chiefs have championship expectations baked into everything they do. Worthy is betting that when the ball is in the air and someone has to go get it, his answer has always been the same.
